On the cold night of October 15th, a group of strong-willed girls participated in the Powderpuff football games at Browning Field. Powderpuff is an opportunity for females who are interested in the sport to play football for the
night. The Freshmen versed the Sophomores while the Juniors versed the Seniors. Both new and returning participants found the games quite exciting, as Marwa Karoumia, a sophomore, states. She mentions how the participants “had
good intentions and were happy to be apart of this event.” Considering this, the final score of the Freshmen vs. Sophomore game resulted to a Freshman win of 20-0! Adding to this, the Seniors took a close victory over the Juniors with a score of 13-12 in an improvised overtime battle. At the end of Junior vs. Senior game, the score was 12-12, and the Seniors were able to find a pass to a player
in the endzone just to be called offsides, the first offside call of the night. The referees consulted and came up with a best 2-out-of-3 to break the tie. The teams would flip a coin to determine who would be on offense first, then they
would take turns attacking the endzone from the 15 yard line with one down. The Juniors attacked first and quickly found the endzone with a toss to the righthand side. The Seniors answered with a touchdown of their own. In the last
attempt, the Juniors would fall short of the endzone resulting in the Seniors winning 13-12, ending the cold night. Lauren Brahm, a player on the winning Senior team, expressed how happy the Seniors were to win the match after a
long, cold night. She also believes the offsides call was “unnecessary and a bad call.” Hopefully this MHS tradition continues as more students come to support and be apart of this thrilling experience!
