On September 12th, the Wednesday of homecoming week, the activity fair took place. It was hosted at Wharton Field House, as opposed to years passed when it was held in the West Gym at Moline High School. The students reported directly to Wharton, and the Metrolink bus schedule even made accommodations to ensure that everyone would be able to partake in this homecoming week festivity. Once there, students checked in with their 2nd period teacher and watched the homecoming court coronation. After witnessing the crownings, students were divided up either inside or outside the building to enjoy the stations. A bingo card was also given for a chance to win a gift card. Near the football field, students could walk the track and play one-one with a Moline basketball player, among many other physical activities. On the other side of the field house, some activities like mask making with French and Drama club, putting with the golf team, and spinning a prize wheel with Chick-Fil-A took place. Inside, the field house had club and sports booths set up, giving students a chance to see what each group is about. For example, Kaleidoscript, Bowling, and the Line O’ Type had a their stations set up, with lots of information and descriptions of what they do throughout the school year. Mrs. Finneran, MHS
english teacher, commented, “The activity fair was a wonderful and unique opportunity for students from all social groups to mingle and get to know one another.” She loved the unity that it created, she even said that it was “nice to see the entire student body in one place” and that she “[looks] forward to seeing it grow and develop” over the coming years. After students had a chance to walk around for a bit, the staff had everyone return back to their seats, with the help of the Moline drumline playing their cadence series. The day was then ended with watching the volleyball tournaments. Overall, it was very successful and many students enjoyed the event. The change to Wharton Field house allowed for more hands-on activities, as well as outdoor experiences. It really brought the school together and helped each student group unify and further understand the other aspects of Moline High School that they perhaps would not be exposed to if this activity fair was not available. The students look forward to next year!
